Hilly Hundred Weekend Bicycle Tour - Bloomington, IN October 13 - 15, 2000
Our Experience Reid, Brian, Phil and I all stayed together in a three-bedroom condo at the Eagle Pointe Golf & Tennis Resort near Lake Monroe. Patti and Jeane also attended the Hilly but stayed in a Bed & Breakfast in Nashville. Our goals were set prior to arriving at the event. Patti and Jeane planned to ride the 40-mile route the first day and the 30-mile route the second day. Reid, Phil, Brian, and I set a goal to complete the 50-mile route both days. For Phil, Reid, and I, it would be our first completion of the full 100 miles.
PhotosThe participants in these photos include Linda, Reid, Phil, Brian, Jeane, and Patti. SaturdayOn Saturday, the weather was perfect. Reid, Brian, and I rode at a bit more leisurely pace, hoping to be somewhat fresh on Sunday. Phil rode ahead of us most of the day but waited for us at the various rest stops. Brian conquered all of the hills but Reid, Phil, and I had to walk the last quarter of one hill on the first day. I tried like crazy to make it to the top but just couldn't do it. SundayOn Sunday, I felt tired from the very start. My legs felt like lead on even the slightest inclines. Although everyone else was in good spirits, I felt a sense of dread about the impending hills and didn't let myself enjoy the ride enough. After making it up tough hills before and after lunch, I started to feel better about surviving the event. The longer we rode, the more certain I became that I would be able to make it, and I finally started to loosen up. When we finally completed the ride, it was an awesome feeling! None of us had to walk any hills on Sunday.
