McNeely Lake - 2003

McNeely Lake Challenge - Louisville, KY

The McNeely Lake Challenge takes place annually in September.  It starts at a school near McNeely Lake, runs through neighborhoods and rural areas, and finishes at McNeely Lake.  The race consists of two lengths, 30K (18.6 miles) and 15K (9.3 miles).  Both race distances are considered challenging due to numerous hills of varying difficulty. I've run the 18.6 mile race twice.

Many runners use this race as a tune-up for a fall marathon.  Most feel that if you can survive the hills on this course for 18.6 miles, you're ready for a marathon. Reid and I first ran this race in 1998 when we were training for our first marathon.  In 2003, after finishing Grandma's Marathon, I convinced my sisters to continue our long runs so we could participate in this race.
